3 Columbia County schools notify parents of intruder drills

EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A few Columbia County schools notified parents that they were conducting intruder drills that included a brief lockdown to practice safety protocols on Monday morning, officials announced.

Blue Ridge Elementary, River Ridge Elementary and Lakeside High principals issued letters to parents with details on the drills.

Threats, rumors and panic continue to flood schools across CSRA

The flood of school threats – real and rumored – continues across the CSRA, as it has since the Apalachee High School shooting on Sept. 4.

As part of the drill, students in each classroom participated in an announced simulation. Teachers then discussed grade-level appropriate intruder scenarios and responses for each, officials said.

The drill is a requirement of the Georgia Safe Schools Act, according to school officials.
