It’s unclear what led authorities to arrest Gaffney in September.

The warrant said deputies arrested Gaffney by linking together several people in his life who came to the hospital and tested positive for chlamydia.

An incident report from the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office said the child’s mother took her to the doctor in April where she received the positive chlamydia results. After that, the mother told law enforcement her daughter itted to being sexually abused.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, chlamydia is a common bacterial infection that can cause permanent damage to a woman’s reproductive system.
