AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Helene did a number on the CSRA, but people in and around the community have stepped up in the days since the hurricane.

The Community Foundation is one of those groups.

On the day the storm hit, the Community Foundation established the Hurricane Helene Community Crisis Fund.

Augusta groups see growing need for help weeks after Helene

We’ve visited several distribution sites across Augusta this week, and on Thursday, we were at the HUB.

The first round of relief money totals just shy of $1.6 million.

“These nonprofits are working daily on the front lines of this disaster, tarping roofs, cutting down trees, feeding and housing people, supplying generators and fuel, providing childcare so parents can get back to work, and so much more.” says Shell Berry, president and CEO of the Community Foundation.

The money is going to groups like Golden Harvest Food Bank, the Family Y and Salvation Army of Augusta and Aiken.
