S.C. SNAP recipients receive replacement benefits after Helene
AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Some relief will soon be on the way to thousands of low-income South Carolina families who lost food due to power outages associated with Hurricane Helene.
Replacement benefits will be automatically given to SNAP recipients in Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Edgefield, McCormick, Orangeburg and Saluda counties, among others.
Bamberg County Council Chairman County Council Chairman Evert Comer Jr. is glad the aid is coming for many in the county.
“While like much of the state, Bamberg County residents have experienced significant hardships resulting from Helene, we are pleased they will see some relief with these SNAP replacement benefits,” Comer said.
New FEMA centers open for Helene victims across the CSRA
FEMA is on the ground and ready to provide new in-person services with centers in Richmond, Washington, Aiken, Barnwell and Saluda counties, and more to come.

SNAP clients must also be in a county where 50% of the total population experienced power outages associated with Helene that lasted longer than four hours.
When Hurricane Helene ed through the region, it left thousands without power for days, and people lost all their perishable foods.
A look at the false information around Hurricanes Helene and Milton
The devastation around Hurricanes Helene and Milton has been complicated further by false and misleading information, much of it politically motivated.

Officials said SNAP recipients residing in these counties in the region will automatically get a replacement of 55% of their September benefits, as determined by the federal government:
If eligible, no documentation is required.
The replacement benefits should be on EBT cards by Tuesday.
