AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – FEMA assistance is available to renters, including students, with uninsured losses from Hurricane Helene in several local counties.
In our region, that includes Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Edgefield, McCormick, Orangeburg and Saluda counties in South Carolina.
In Georgia, it includes Burke, Columbia, Emanuel, Glascock, Hancock, Jefferson, Jenkins, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Screven, Taliaferro, Warren and Washington counties.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency may be able to help renters as well as homeowners with serious needs, displacement, temporary lodging, basic home repair costs, personal property loss or other disaster-caused needs.

The quickest way to apply is to go online to DisasterAssistance.gov.
You can also apply in person at a disaster recovery center, where you can meet with representatives of FEMA, the state of South Carolina and the U.S. Small Business istration.

What you’ll need when you apply
- A current phone number where you can be ed.
- Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying.
- Your Social Security number.
- A general list of damage and losses.
- Banking information if you choose direct deposit.
- If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.
