EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - One local church is making it their mission to help clear trees and debris from around yards and driveways.
Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans has gathered volunteers from around and outside the area to help with the cleanup.
Something we’re all very familiar with is the sound of chainsaws and tree limbs coming down.
Church and volunteers have been helping people across the CSRA clear their yards since the storm hit.
Golden Harvest provides thousands of meals to community
If you’re still in need, Golden Harvest is continuing to work daily to get food out to their 24 counties. Food distribution sites are ongoing to help meet those needs.

On Friday, they spent their morning cleaning walkways around their building.
However, this is nothing new to Wesley United.
They have a group called the Early Response Team, which was formed after Hurricane Katrina.
They continue to help where needed, and this time it’s in their own backyard.
“We provide an important service within a community. This time it was our community and sometimes it was somebody else’s community, and they go there,” said John Morris with Wesley United Methodist Church.
Phinizy Center finds hope while repairing ‘hidden gem’
Like many places, Phinizy Swamp Nature Park is recovering after the storm. They opened their gates Saturday after receiving damage to some of their trails.

The church has received between 40 to 50 requests from people needing assistance cutting and moving trees.
So far, they have cleaned up about 20 homes.
They help people who may not be able to pay for cleanup, the elderly and those with disabilities.
They have received a lot of requests, but in order to fulfill all of these, they need volunteers.
They will be out again on Saturday, so you still have time to sign up and help.
They say they even need volunteers to talk with the homeowners, especially the seniors who may not have gotten out much. So, any and all help is needed.
