2 students charged after making threats at Harlem, Lakeside high schools

EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Two students have been charged after making threats at Lakeside and Harlem high schools on Friday.

On Friday, Oct. 18, Lakeside High School officials notified parents of an incident in which a student was overheard making threatening comments toward the school. Upon further investigation, the student reportedly commented in a joking manner.

A Grovetown High School student was arrested over a video that showed the teenager holding a gun, apparently in a school restroom.

The student has been criminally charged and will be held able according to the code of conduct.

Earlier that day, Harlem High School officials notified parents of an incident in which a student made comments of a threatening nature against another student.

“Safety of students and staff is a top priority. Threats of any nature will not be tolerated and will be investigated fully,” Harlem High Principal Casey Dees says.

Incident at game spurs soft lockdown at Allendale schools

After an incident on Friday at a football game in Allendale County, school officials are implementing a soft lockdown protocol throughout this week starting Monday as a precautionary measure.

s have asked parents to please be aware of and discuss with their child that whenever a threat is posted or stated, infractions typically result in both of the following:

● Students being removed from school for the year, possibly without the option to attend an alternative school

● Misdemeanor or felony charges with either juvenile court or adult court proceedings

Suspicious behavior should always be quickly reported to a school , Columbia County School District Police, or by ing the CCSD anonymous tip hotline at 706-541-3600.

“If you see something, say something. Working together, we can continue to provide a positive environment for students and staff,” Dees says.

Also in Harlem, two fifth-grade students at North Harlem Elementary School were found with knives and nicotine vapes on a school bus on Thursday, according to school officials.
