Finding Solutions: YMCA still helping others after Helene and expanding reach
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -The Family YMCA of Greater Augusta is still helping others post Hurricane Helene. Whether you’re in need of food or childcare, they’re finding solutions to make sure you get the help you need.
They say there was a need before Helene, and they’re still seeing it now.
The YMCA is continuing to partner with Golden Harvest, providing food at all nine of their locations through their food pantry.
Non-perishable items are available every day and can be picked up when they are open.
The YMCA is also helping families receiving services or FEMA assistance at the Hub by providing childcare.
Finding Solutions: Evans church helps clean up Helene damage
Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans has gathered volunteers from around and outside the area to help with the cleanup.

“We want to make sure that everyone knows that the YMCA is there to take care of their kids, so they can concentrate on getting their FEMA efforts going and started,” said Catie McCauley, chief operating officer at the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta. “We’re there to provide that safe childcare for them.”
As the YMCA continues to help the community, they’re also expanding their reach.
They are looking for tractor-trailers and drivers to deliver water to the YMCA of Western North Carolina.
They tell us many schools in Asheville and surrounding areas cannot reopen because there is no drinking water available for students.
The YMCA already has all the bottled water, they just need volunteers to get it there.
Finding Solutions: Golden Harvest provides thousands of meals to community
If you’re still in need, Golden Harvest is continuing to work daily to get food out to their 24 counties. Food distribution sites are ongoing to help meet those needs.
