Aiken man accused assault/attempted murder 3 years later

GRANITEVILLE, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A 33-year-old has been arrested in connection to a shooting incident from 2021, we learned from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday.

Aiken County deputies say that on April 4, 2021, they responded to Turnbull Circle in Graniteville about a shooting, according to authorities.

Deputies say they saw the victim lying on the ground with what appeared to be a gunshot wound when they arrived on scene.

Edgefield Co. pair sentenced in 2022 shooting death of 42-year-old

After two years, justice was served for the family of 42-year-old Christopher Lathrop who was killed in Edgefield County, according to authorities.

The victim was transported by EMS, authorities said.

Deputies found two shell casings on the ground near the victim, according to the report.

One witness told deputies the complainant and the other invited the victim over to hang out.

A suspect then showed up to pick up one of the witnesses, according to the report.

Cuffed suspect caught after hour and a half on the loose in Aiken County

From hiding under laundry to fleeing while cuffed and hiding behind farm equipment, Antonio Cheatham wasn't easy to arrest, according to authorities.

The victim then walked out of the house to talk to the suspect and the suspect shot him, authorities said.

The second witness corroborated the details to authorities and stated they heard two gunshots from outside then saw the victim trying to get away - then fell on the sidewalk bleeding.

The complainant told deputies she tried to stop the victim from walking out to talk to the suspect. She stated she then saw the suspect pull what looked to be a handgun and start shooting, only firing two shots.

The suspect then fled the scene in a black vehicle, according to the report.

Coalie D. Garvin, 33, of Aiken, was arrested on Oct. 22 and charged with assault/attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to jail records.
