ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WHNS/Gray News) – Nurses in North Carolina went the extra mile to keep a couple together after Hurricane Helene.

Swannanoa residents Linda and Gary have been married for 62 years. Their last names weren’t provided.

They took vows more than six decades ago to stay by each other’s side, for better or for worse.

In the early morning hours after Helene hit the western Carolinas, Linda fell, and Gary couldn’t find her. When he did locate her, he also fell.

Both were bruised and unable to get up, waiting for help together until family came to check on them.

Linda and Gary were itted to Mission Hospital for their injuries after the storm.

Nurses there brought their hospital beds together so they could continue to be by each other’s side.

A dining space was also set up by nurses for the couple to enjoy meals together.
