21-year-old accused of rape in alleged Augusta home invasion

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A 21-year-old has been arrested and accused of raping a woman after forcing his way into her Augusta home earlier this week, according to arrest warrants.

Davion Laray Benjamin, of Augusta, was arrested Wednesday, according to jail records.

The incident report states the victim heard a loud bang from the front of her home on River Ridge Drive.

The victim said this led her to hide behind her bedroom door, according to the incident report.

The victim told deputies she noticed an unknown male standing in the living room. When the male noticed her, he approached her with a handgun and pointed it at her head, officials say.

Two former Richmond County Sheriff’s Office deputies have pled guilty to federal civil rights charges involving an assault on a jail detainee.

The incident report states the suspect covered the victim’s mouth, told her to shut the front door and took her to a bedroom.

According to arrest warrants, Benjamin rapped the victim at gunpoint.

Benjamin then forced the victim to perform sexual acts on him, according to arrest warrants.

The incident report states the suspect asked the victim to delete the front door video footage.

2 suspects accused of separate aggravated assaults

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is looking for two suspects involved in separate aggravated assault incidents.

Benjamin is charged with kidnapping, rape, aggravated sodomy, home invasion in the first degree and possession of a firearm or knife during a crime, according to bookings.

Benjamin is booked in the Richmond County jail.

Bond was set at $7,900 for the possession of a firearm or knife during a crime charge. There was no bond for the remaining charges.
