S.C. concealed weapons courses to be offered across state

AIKEN, S.C. - As a part of the state’s constitutional carry law, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is set to host free concealed weapons permit courses in every county.

A certified instructor or local law enforcement must now conduct at least two free courses a month in each county.

To comply with this, SLED has partnered with instructors and some agencies throughout the state.

Besides the race for the White House, there is one other question that all of them will be asked at the polls this year, a statewide constitutional referendum.

This program is not intended to replace or change any existing classes being taught by instructors in the state. It is the same permit program and free for the instructional portion of the course. Citizens can attend in any county, regardless of which one they live in.

There are several requirements to be eligible to take part in the course:

  • Must have a South Carolina driver’s license or own real property in the state.
  • Must be at least 18 to attend.
  • Must bring a handgun and 25 rounds of ammunition for the shooting portion of the course or make arrangements ahead of time to rent a handgun for use during it.

Those who attend the classes will receive at least four hours instruction on firearms safety, self-defense laws and laws surrounding the carrying of firearms. There will be a 50-question multiple-choice test and a 25-round qualification course of fire at the end of the program. This must be ed with a score of 70% or better to .
