ARC volleyball team falls short in its final four push
SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - It’s been an unforgettable season for the Academy of Richmond County’s varsity volleyball team.
But unfortunately it came to an ending that nobody wants to be a part of as the Musketeers watched a second-set lead slip away in the final four.
It was all downhill from there.
In the first set, ARC surely looked like a team that won 30 games this season.
The Musketeers were in command early, taking the first 25-16.
But mistake after mistake led to Calhoun County taking advantage on every point and scoring 10 unanswered points to tie the game up.
“We were up really high in the first set and then all of our momentum, went down,” said ARC’s Caitlyn Rivers. “They’re a great team. They’re very defensive. They get a touch on every ball and they just took all the momentum, but it was a very fun game.”
The wind was out of the sails for ARC in the third, and it was evident.
The Musketeers had no answer for Calhoun, losing the third set 25-12 and facing elimination.
Hockey is coming back to Augusta under new deal
Oak View Group will control the new arena and Bell Auditorium and be responsible for bringing a hockey team here and making sure it remains successful.

“Somewhere toward the end of the second set tonight, and I don’t know what happened, and my coaches don’t know what,” said ARC assistant coach David Bradberry. “We stopped playing fundamental volleyball and got in our heads. And so we had them in the second set and they fought back, and good for them.”
ARC put up a last effort fight in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to stop Calhoun.
The Musketeers’ impressive season ends with a 3-1 loss in the school’s first every varsity volleyball final four.
ARC will return every player on their roster next season except for one player. So the goal of chasing a state championship again next year is still very much within reach.
