Salvation Army works to get community ‘moving back to normal’
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Between holding a family fun festival and an clothing giveaway, the Salvation Army of Augusta is filling emotional and physical needs in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

The Salvation Army held this year’s Kroc Festival on Saturday in Augusta.
It’s always on the last Saturday of October.
The festival had a whole host of events and games, from vendors with trunk-or-treat giveaways to face painting and the Richmond County Marshal’s Office attending.

Businesses and the CSRA community is expressing excitement as it seems like people are finally able to enjoy the fall season.

“One of the things we wanted to do in the aftermath of Helene was try to help get back to normal – try to get back to having hope that comes from moving back to normal, and this is just another way of doing that,” said Maj. Jonathan Raymer, area commander of the Salvation Army.
Clothing giveaway
Meanwhile, in continued of those affected by Hurricane Helene, the Salvation Army is holding a special free clothing distribution event on Tuesday across its four family stores and the Kroc Center.
Made possible through a generous donation from the Pros Fore Clothes Foundation, this event aims to provide essential clothing to families working to rebuild their lives after the hurricane.
Toys for Tots helps provide Christmas for kids
The end of the year is creeping up on us, and some organizations are already looking on to Christmas.

The clothing distribution will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, and clothing will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
Distribution locations include:
- North Augusta Family Store: 1751 Knox Ave., North Augusta.
- Riverwatch Family Store: 4099 Riverwatch Parkway, Martinez.
- South Augusta Family Store: 3206 Peach Orchard Road, Unit 7, Augusta.
- Thomson Family Store: 2115 Harrison Road Southeast, Thomson.
- Kroc Center of Augusta: 1833 Broad St., Augusta.
During the event, people in need can provide their clothing sizes, and the Salvation Army staff and volunteers will assist. While most available clothing items are in youth large and adult sizes, some sizes are limited and may run out quickly.

Get ready for a frightfully fun Halloween season as Augusta’s community centers and other locations transform into spooky havens for trick-or-treaters of all ages.

Lisa Railey, executive director of the Pros Fore Clothes Foundation, said:
“Our mission has always been to help those in need, and we are honored to partner with The Salvation Army to provide clothing to those affected by Hurricane Helene. It’s our hope that this small gesture helps lighten the burden for families as they recover from this disaster.”
