Salvation Army works to get community ‘moving back to normal’
Between holding a family fun festival and an clothing giveaway, the Salvation Army of Augusta is filling emotional and physical needs in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

On Oct. 8, they announced the first round of relief money totals just shy of $1.6 million.
With this distribution of grants, more than $2.3 million has been distributed to nonprofit organizations working in 18 counties in and around the CSRA.
“These nonprofits are working daily on the front lines of this disaster, tarping roofs, cutting down trees, feeding and housing people, supplying generators and fuel, providing childcare so parents can get back to work, and so much more,” says Shell Berry, president and CEO of the Community Foundation.
The money has gone to groups like Golden Harvest Food Bank, the Family Y and the Salvation Army of Augusta and Aiken.
