New westbound lane opens at state line as I-20 project continues
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - If you hit the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 at the state line on Monday morning, you might’ve noticed another lane is open.
The roadwork to expand I-20 has been going on for years now, with several projected end dates coming and going this year.
Now, crews are working to open up the eastbound side, which we could see in the next month.
Why drivers in Augusta face various traffic headaches this week
The city of Augusta will close two roads for infrastructure improvements, according to city officials.

“Things are going well. We delivered the westbound side, so eastbound is anticipated. We’re probably creeping towards, just to just a safe buffer, that Thanksgiving week,” said Kyle Collins with the Georgia Department of Transportation.
“We’re hoping by early December all the lanes are open, eastbound lane is done, done with the guardrail. Major work is done. They’ll still be doing a little bit of finishing work,” he said.
New details on injured deputy, suspect accused of ramming car
A 19-year-old has been charged with carjacking a vehicle and leading officers on a chase that seriously injured a deputy in a crash.

Things like guardrails, signage and finishing will follow after the eastbound side opens up, which means at least part of this project will extend into 2025.
