Augusta Tech unveils plans for student housing
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Big news for the future of Augusta Technical College was announced on Tuesday after college President Jermaine Whirl gave the State of the College Address.
Whirl laid out some of the college’s key achievements over the last year, including a 13% increase in student enrollment and the addition of several certification programs.
He also detailed plans for the future of the campus, which plays into that big increase in the student population.
“Well, we’ve got some pretty big plans, which is student housing,” said Whirl. “We wanna mention this because housing is the next evolution of this institution. I just told you we have over 13,000 people attending this college.”
Paine College hires Dr. Lester A. McCorn as new president
Dr. Lester A. McCorn will be leaving Clinton College, a historically Black college in Rock Hill, S.C., to take the reins at Paine College in Augusta.

There’s no word on when student housing could come but Whirl says the school is working on those plans as we speak.
The plan is to have 300 beds for students since Whirl says so many are commuting several hours each day.
Along with housing, there will be cafes and coffee shops added to these students living on campus.
