EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Girl’s high school flag football is once again underway in the CSRA, and the reigning Division 2 state champions are picking up right where they left off.

Greenbrier got to host region play at home Monday night, and they handle business to start the path to another state title.

The Pack started region play against the Grovetown Warriors.

And it looked almost identical to the matchup these two teams had in their first meeting last season.

The Pack’s quarterback Kenzie Horton was named the Georgia High School Girls Flag Football Player of the Week last week.

But Grovetown was able to find a flaw.

It’s been an unforgettable season for the Academy of Richmond County’s varsity volleyball team., it came to an ending that nobody liked.

“First game, the defense really kept us in the game. The offense moved the ball pretty well but we didn’t finish. Obviously, Grovetown had a lot to do with that. They’re really tough on defense. We had a few opportunities that we could have taken advantage of. We dropped a couple of possible interceptions on defense,” said Head Coach Daniel Jordan.

Jordan’s team was able to finally break the tie, with a quick touchdown to Abby Lester.

The Pack won game one, 6-0. The exact same score a year ago between these two.

In game two, it was the Harlem Bulldogs on the opposite end from Greenbrier.

This time, there was no issue for the Pack’s offense to get going.

Lester got them on the board early, but the performance of the night goes to Presley McDermott.

This past weekend, Robinson took first place in the GIAA Region 2 3A championships in the 5K run. Two days later, he found himself on a plane to Bahrain to compete against the world’s best.

The junior plays both wide receiver and safety, and she showed why on back-to-back drives.

McDermott hauled in a nice touchdown and then took the pitch off a Harlem interception to give her team 15 extra yards.

“My favorite thing is to get interceptions. I don’t even care about offense as much as I do defense. So, I just like to read where the ball is in the air, find it, and take off after it,” said McDermott.

Greenbrier took down Harlem, 40-0, in game two to start region play undefeated.

Greenbrier improved to 4-1 on the season, and they’ve only lost one game dating back to the first week of last season.

So, the path to another state championship has been laid and all they have to do is keep this momentum up.

The Pack will be back in action on Wednesday night in the Wolf Den for another doubleheader matchup.
