S.C. State Fair donates $200K for Hurricane Helene relief

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The South Carolina State Fair announced a donation of $200,000 to recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.

The donation, approved by the fair’s executive committee, will be divided equally among four organizations actively involved in disaster relief and recovery efforts.

Tons of debris are slowly being processed into mulch, one month after what many are calling the worst storm to ever hit our area.

The following organizations will each receive $50,000 to aid their work in the hardest-hit areas of South Carolina:

  • The Salvation Army of Aiken
  • The Salvation Army of Greenville, Pickens and Oconee Counties
  • The Salvation Army of Spartanburg
  • Samaritan’s Purse
Community Foundation crisis fund reaches $2.3 million for CSRA Helene relief

Helene did a number on the CSRA, but people in and around the community have continued to step up even a month after the hurricane.

“Hurricane Helene brought unprecedented destruction to many communities across our state,” says Nancy Smith, general manager of the South Carolina State Fair. “Our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods. As a community-centered organization, we are honored to the vital recovery work being done by these organizations and hope these donations will make a meaningful difference in helping people rebuild their lives.”

The donations will provide essential for ongoing recovery efforts, ensuring that critical aid continues to reach those impacted by the hurricane. The S.C.
