Attorney from Aiken suspended, arrested on child sexual abuse material, related charges
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - An attorney from Aiken County was arrested on seven charges connected to the sexual exploitation of minors, according to the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
In a news release sent out on Wednesday, city officials said William Daniel Mayes, 54, was arrested on Tuesday.
On Friday, the Supreme Court of South Carolina released an order stating Mayes’s license to practice law in the state would be suspended until further notice.
According to officials, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigators with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office made the arrest.
Incident report sheds new details on Evans High School coach arrest
We’re learning new details about a community coach at Evans High School who has been arrested and charged with improper sexual conduct by a teacher, according to Columbia County jail bookings.

The release states investigators received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children which led them to Mayes.
Investigators say Mayes recorded a person without their consent and possessed files of child sexual abuse material.
The release states Mayes is charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, third-degree, and two counts of voyeurism.
Sexual exploitation of a minor is a felony offense punishable by up to ten years imprisonment on each count. Voyeurism is a misdemeanor offense punishable by up to 3 years imprisonment for a first offense on each count.
The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office, according to the news release.
