AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - We are a month away from the 24th annual iHeartMedia Cares for Kids fundraiser.

It’s a three-day event where the community can come together to the Children’s Hospital of Georgia.

More than 75,000 kids come to the hospital each year and you at home can be a part of helping make miracles happen for these families.

We shared Coale’s story with you last year. He was born with brittle bone disease.

Coale is one of thousands of kids receiving treatment at the children’s hospital.

“It’s hard to put into words how thankful I was knowing that I could just drive down the street and get the care that I needed for Coale,” said Rebecca Peace, Coale’s mother.

Coale’s bones break easily, often with no obvious cause or minimal injury. At almost 7 years old, it still happens.

“it is nice to know that there is somewhere I can go to get an x-ray, I can get advice, I can get help with his splint,” said Peace.

During the fundraiser, you will have the opportunity to call in and make a donation.

“Whether it’s for programmatic things that maybe make the hospital a little bit more fun and easy for the children, equipment upgrades, new technology or research, it all goes directly to impact the children,” said Catherine Steward, the director of philanthropy at the Childrens Hospital of Georgia.

Peace says she’s seen firsthand during Coale’s therapy appointments how donations from Radiothon really make a difference.

“It was like a big ball pit and you could tell there was some wear and tear, so it was kind of fun to see the old one out and the new one in,” she said. “It was nice to be able to see where some of the funds go because it really is things we are using every day at the physical therapy office.”

Cotton, pecan and chicken farmers took severe losses from Hurricane Helene, as did owners of private timberlands across Georgia. Now relief is on the way.

The three-day event is filled with stories of hope and healing from patients and their families which we will share on air, but also on the radio.

Minnesota Fatz with iHeart Media has been a part of Radiothon for more than 15 years.

“When I walk the floors of the children’s hospital and I see those little kids, it just touches me and motivates me to continue what we have done in the past,” said Fatz. “We have grown 24 years, that’s a long time.”

Peace says she wants to send the message that every bit goes a long way.

“Some people don’t give because they say they only have $1 or $5, but it’s really those $1 and $5 dollars that add up,” she said.

The fundraiser is taking place Dec. 5-7 where you’ll be able to call in and make a donation.

Last year they raised more than $262,000 however, you can always donate to the hospital.
