ATLANTA - A federal judge on Tuesday upheld seven Georgia counties’ extension of election office hours over the weekend to accept hand-delivered absentee ballots.
The offices in Democratic-leaning counties stayed open over the weekend to accept the ballots weekend after a judge rejected a Republican lawsuit trying to block the practice.
A federal judge on Tuesday agreed with that decision.

The federal judge highlighted that the GOP’s complaint lacked a “basic level of statutory review and reading comprehension.”
He also said the GOP was attempting to “tip the scales of this election by discriminating against [counties] less likely to vote for their candidate.”
The judge – a Trump appointee – chastised the GOP lawyers for bringing the suit and urged them to read “The Boy Who Cried Wolf.”
The GOP did not challenge similar weekend ballot acceptance practices in Republican-leaning counties.
Both the state and federal suits were filed by Alex Kaufman, general counsel for the Georgia Republican Party, who was involved in Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
Kaufman ed the call where Trump asked Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” him 11,780 votes in 2020.
