Fani Willis wins reelection as Fulton County district attorney

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Fulton County district attorney who is prosecuting former President Donald Trump on alleged election interference charges won reelection Tuesday night.

Fani Willis, whose office also recently accepted a series of plea deals in the organized crime trial of superstar rapper Young Thug, defeated a challenge from Republican Courtney Kramer.

Willis’ historic prosecution of Trump has made her and her office a lightning rod for controversy, particularly after her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade became public earlier this year.

Now, the future of Willis’ role in her prosecution is awaiting a hearing from the Georgia Court of Appeals next month.

Wade was paid almost $1 million in taxpayer funds for his services in Willis’ investigation of the nation’s 45th president.

Willis is also at odds with of the Fulton County Commission over the notorious Fulton County Jail, which has gained national attention over its conditions and number of inmate deaths.

In an exclusive interview with Atlanta News First investigative reporter Andy Pierrotti, Willis said the commission is using her office as a scapegoat for the county’s inaction involving the jail and other parts criminal justice system, long before she took office.
