Voters say yes to education sales tax across CSRA counties
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - This week, voters on both sides of the river said yes to renewing penny sales taxes that benefit our public schools.
This means more projects and renovations are in our future for several of our oldest schools that desperately need a facelift.
Where the money will go and how it will be used depends on the county.
In Richmond County, renovations at several schools across the district are on the table.
Some schools include A.R. Johnson, Glenn Hills middle and high schools, Josey High and Academy of Richmond County.
New faces to the Richmond County Board of Education speak on plans
Four new Richmond County Board of Education were elected Tuesday. It’s a shake-up we’ve not witnessed in decades.

District leaders say the sales tax will build new classrooms and replace furniture or equipment at schools throughout the school system.
In Columbia County, renovations and more classrooms are the focus.
District leaders say they are looking to bring improvements to schools like Greenbrier, Grovetown and Evans high schools, as well as Grovetown middle and elementary schools.
Safety and security upgrades are also on the list for funding.
Across the river in Aiken County, district leaders say they’re estimating to pour about $285 million into the district.
Columbia County voters agree to extend school sales tax
Columbia County voters on Tuesday approved continuing a 1% sales tax that goes toward schools.

Improvements to Silver Bluff High School, North Augusta Middle and South Aiken High are just some of the big projects looking to get funded.
Again, this is an extension to the one percent tax voters said yes to in 2014. The money from that went to five projects, improving schools like North Augusta High School and Aiken High School.
Each district says this sales tax is an extension of the work they are already doing.
Now, that each has the official yes vote, leaders say they expect to start projects soon.
