With SCHSL ruling and Gray Collegiate loses, CSRA teams win

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Entering their matchup with North Augusta, Gray Collegiate has faced some rough waters.

The War Eagles meeting with the Yellow Jackets on Friday night could be their final game of the season.

The South Carolina High School League’s executive committee voted to uphold sanctions against the War Eagles for the use of an ineligible student-athlete.

Gray Collegiate was fined $500, their penalty also includes forfeiting any wins from when the ineligible athlete dressed or played in this season. .

Aiken High volleyball heads to lower state championships

Aiken High School volleyball has made it to the third round of the playoffs three times in the last four seasons.

The player dressed for all of Gray’s 4A Region 4 games.

That means the War Eagles’ wins against South Aiken, Aiken and Midland Valley are no longer. Those games already show as (FF) on their schedule.

The forfeit gives Aiken’s football program their first win since Sept. 30, 2022.

According to the League’s by-laws, since the school had to forfeit more than one game that determines playoff seeding, the school is therefore ineligible for the postseason.

From almost giving up on the sport to being put in his high school’s hall of fame alongside his older brother, Antonio Hamilton says his decision to keep pursuing football came at a place where many life-changing decisions are made.

Gray Collegiate is still expected to play North Augusta on Friday, but it is no longer for the region championship.

Gray Collegiate is planning on appealing the ruling. The SCHSL is expected to release playoff seedings on Saturday.

It is the second week in a row that the War Eagles have faced issues with the League.

Head Coach De’Angelo Bryant, formerly of Silver Bluff High School, and an assistant were suspended for recruiting violations. Bryant’s suspension also includes the postseason.
