AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The James Brown Turkey giveaway is a staple in our community.

Families in need can sign up to get a free turkey for Thanksgiving.

We spoke with the late singer’s daughter, Deanna Brown, about why her father started it.

“Something he wanted to start because he grew up poor he didn’t forget where he came from so once he was blessed by God to be able to pay it forward and help others he started realizing that you know not everyone can afford a turkey,” Brown says.
