AUGUSTA, Ga. – Gas prices in the United States are, on average, the lowest they have been since May 2021.

According to a report from GasBuddy, the nation’s average price was $3.03 per gallon as of Monday.

That’s a 2.2-cent decrease compared to the previous week and the cheapest national average since May 2021.

It’s also 32.3 cents cheaper than the national average this time last year.

IN THE 2-STATE REGION

Gas prices: We’re paying less than the national average

  1. Georgia: Wednesday’s average was $2.93 per gallon, down a penny from a week earlier. Prices in Augusta were even lower at $2.88 on Wednesday, down from $2.90 a week earlier.
  2. South Carolina: Wednesday’s average was $2.80 per gallon, up nearly a penny from a week earlier. Prices in Aiken and Edgefield counties were $2.82, down from $2.85 a week earlier.

GasBuddy compiles data from more than 12 million individual price reports from more than 150,000 gas stations across the country.

The states with the highest gas prices this week include Hawaii, California and Washington. The states with the lowest gas prices this week are Oklahoma, Texas and Mississippi.

GasBuddy predicts that average prices will continue to fall as fuel demand decreases with the coming colder weather, as people choose to stay home more often in the winter.
