Student charged over threat against Columbia Middle School

GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A Columbia Middle School student is being criminally charged after a making a threat on Thursday.

In a letter sent home to parents, school officials say a student made comments of a threatening nature against the school during class change.

School officials say s secured the student. Upon investigation, the student is being criminally charged and will be held able according to the code of conduct, officials say.

A 22-year-old has been arrested after allegedly shooting a victim in the leg with a gun on Wednesday, according to arrest warrants.

The school says they felt it was best to notify parents as the incident took place with other students present.

“Parents, please speak with your children about the serious consequences of making threatening comments, even in a joking manner,” the letter says. “Suspicious behavior should be reported immediately to a teacher, school or the Columbia County School District Police.”
