Name released for 27-year-old slain on E. Chapman Street in Augusta

One person has died after a shooting on East Chapman Street on Thursday night, according to law enforcement.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A 27-year-old has been identified as the victim of a shooting on East Chapman Street in Augusta, the Richmond County Coroner told us Friday.

Coroner Mark Bowen responded to the 700 block of East Chapman Street about a shooting death.

Zaytreonta Boyd, of Augusta, was shot at least one time and pronounced dead on the scene at 8 p.m., Bowen says.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the 700 block of East Chapman Street about a shooting at 7:29 p.m.

An autopsy for Boyd has been scheduled, the coroner says.

The shooting comes amid a two-year outbreak of violent crime that’s claimed more than 180 lives across the CSRA.

Cities large and small have been affected on both sides of the Savannah River. But as the largest community in the region, Augusta has been hit especially hard.

Authorities have blamed much of the problem on gangs.
