NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Neighbors in North Augusta are getting updates on Hurricane Helene relief efforts.

Officials say they have 92% of roads complete.

This week they are focusing on cleaning the Lynnhurst, Green Forest and Knox Avenue neighborhoods.

We have been working to get an updated timeline on when Augusta city cemeteries could reopen and the extent of the damage.

They remind you they do not clean up Belvedere because it is outside city limits, making it Aiken County’s responsibility.

They also say vegetative debris needs to be separated in your front yard when cleaning debris.

They aim to have all city-controlled roads, parks and the Greeneway open by Jan.

“I think right now the goal is one ,” says Williams. “So, for city roads, we hope to have one at least by the end of January. We’re really shooting for maybe the end of December, but there are a lot of variables with that, that weather can delay. So, then we’ll do a second . And so again, we’re trying to get as much debris as we can based off the size of the trucks we have based on the claws and the boom. So, it can be very difficult, but we feel like we’re making progress.”

The mayor also stresses that people be patient as they clean the debris.

“I’m just very thankful for our citizens’ patience,” says Williams. “They’re resilience, they’re positive attitude. It really helps and we’re going to get there. We’re making progress and just stay with us a little bit longer, but we are going to get all this debris picked up.”
