EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Walker Gantt was like many collegiate athlete hopefuls this summer, committed to a future program.

But when he put pen to paper in November, the name of the school he signed with was not the one he originally intended.

Gantt was originally committed to play golf not to far from home at Augusta University.

Under the impending House vs. NCAA settlement, schools will be allowed to participate in revenue sharing to pay athletes directly. As part of the new model, the NCAA has proposed roster limitations.

The new limit roster for Division I golf is expected to be nine golfers.

Gantt is one of thousands that has had to deal with the change head-on. He kept in with Kennesaw State’s coaching staff.

“I’m pumped. Obviously the up and downs of the recruitment have been brutal because, the decommitment. Being able to have this opportunity to go to Kennesaw, I’m blessed and very excited to go to Kennesaw,” said Gantt.

Gantt had a place to call home even if his collegiate dreams were rocked so close to his g date.

“I’ve known this coach for a very long time. Me and him, I’ve been great friends. He’s always been good to me, and I really appreciate his friendship. I love the campus. Campus was great. And overall I just like, I like how the team’s doing right now. They’ve been playing really well. So happy to that,” he said.
