2 people ID’d in Windsor Spring, Willis Foreman roads crash

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Two people were killed by a multi-car accident on Thanksgiving afternoon.
It happened around 4 p.m. at Windsor Spring Road and Willis Foreman Road, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.
76-year-old Nichlos Warren was pronounced dead on the scene at 4:08 p.m.
The driver of the other vehicle, 34-year-old Kourtney Cain, was transported to Wellstar/MCG hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:04 p.m., according to Bowen.

Deadly holidays: A dangerous time to drive
- According to a new report, more than 11,100 people died in car crashes during holiday weekends from 2018 to 2022, with Thanksgiving emerging as the second-deadliest holiday weekend for deaths, with 2456 fatalities.
- Thanksgiving is the most dangerous holiday for pedestrians. From 2016-2022, there were 1,841 pedestrians killed in traffic crashes, and they made up 16.6% of fatalities. On Thanksgiving, the proportion of pedestrian fatalities jumped to 21.0%.
- The study found 38% of holiday fatalities were due to alcohol-impaired driving. Speeding-related crashes ed for 31.1% of holiday fatalities, while distracted drivers ed for 7.4%.
The crash at the remote south Augusta intersection came as an expected record number of holiday travelers hit the road on what’s often a deadly day to drive.
