S.C. residents get another chance to apply for disaster food aid

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved several counties for Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Assistance after Hurricane Helene.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Starting Sunday, South Carolina residents have another chance to apply for Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Assistance after Hurricane Helene.

Counties include:

Abbeville, Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Cherokee, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Greenville, Greenwood, Hampton, Jasper, Kershaw, Laurens, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Orangeburg, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg, Union, and York.

Non-SNAP residents in the impacted counties who are seeking assistance and were unable to pre- and complete a telephone interview between Nov. 12 and Nov. 21 may apply in person.

Each in-person event will run for three days. Individuals can only apply for DSNAP at the designated location in their county of residence.

On Dec. 1, residents of Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Cherokee, Hampton, Laurens, McCormick, Saluda, Spartanburg, Union, and York counties may pre- for DSNAP online, at https://benefitsportal.dss.sc.gov/ and visit the DSNAP site in their county between Dec. 2 and Dec. 6 to complete an eligibility interview.

On Dec. 8, residents of Abbeville, Aiken, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Greenville, Greenwood, Jasper, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry, Oconee, Orangeburg, Pickens, and Richland counties may pre- for DSNAP online and visit the DSNAP site in their county on Dec. 9 and Dec. 13 to complete an eligibility interview.

Households who applied for DSNAP between Nov. 11 and Nov. 21 and were denied after a telephone interview are not eligible to re-apply. If you do not agree with the decision, you may request a fair hearing by calling 1-800-311- 7220 or writing to your local county DSS office.
