Richmond County School Board looking to name interim superintendent
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The shakeup continues in the Richmond County School System as the district’s top leader says he is leaving at the end of the year to be closer to family.
Richmond County School System Superintendent Kenneth Bradshaw announced his resignation on Monday.
Bradshaw has held the position of superintendent for 5½ years, according to the district, and has spent nearly a decade working in the school system.
Meanwhile, the job of finding the next person for his job falls on the board of education, nearly half of which will be leaving office at the end of the year.
The process of finding a permanent replacement won’t start anytime soon as the immediate priority is appointing an interim school superintendent.

Dozens of CSRA schools are on a list allowing their students to apply for vouchers for private tuition.

Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw’s last day is Dec. 31.
That’s the exact same date four long-standing board who gave him the job more than five years ago exit their seats.
State law allows them to name his successor before leaving office, but they only have 28 days to do so.
Otherwise, the job of finding the next man or woman for the job falls on the newly elected board taking office in January.
Regardless, the charter of the Richmond County School System clearly outlines an interim plan:
“Whenever a vacancy shall occur in the office of the superintendent of schools, the next highest ranking shall exercise all the rights, powers and responsibilities of the said office of superintendent.”

The Georgia Department of Education announced priorities, which will guide state school superintendent’s conversations with lawmakers.

The district recently updated its organizational chart, however, it’s not to scale and too confusing to name the who will temporarily be appointed to carry the weight of the district.
The board’s president wants to name the interim before the end of the year and the board will be discussing it on Thursday.
“Serving the Richmond County School System has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” said Bradshaw. “This decision did not come lightly, as my time here has been one of the most fulfilling chapters of my professional life. While I have enjoyed serving the Richmond County School System, I believe now is the right time to step away to be closer to the Atlanta metropolitan area and my family.”
