FEMA updates: New aid center opens in Evans, plus other tips
EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - FEMA has opened a disaster recovery center in Columbia County to provide one-on-one help for Georgians affected by Hurricane Helene.
Meanwhile, a mobile center at the Burke County Library will be closing Friday.
The Columbia County center, which also includes help from the Small Business istration, is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 1-6 p.m. Sundays.
It’s located at the Columbia County Emergency Management Agency, 650 Ronald Reagan Drive in Evans.

Here are the current disaster recovery centers in the CSRA:
- Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 17519 Atomic Road in Aiken County. It will be open from Tuesday through Jan. 7, Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Bamberg County Library, 3156 East Railroad Avenue. The center will be open until Dec. 12, Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- 537 W. Church St. in Batesburg until Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.
- Burke County Library, 130 Georgia Highway 24 South in Waynesboro. It’s open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Dec. 6.
- Columbia County Emergency, located at 650 Ronald Reagan Drive in Evans. It will be open starting Dec. 3 Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
- Southeastern Technical College, located at 346 Kite Road building one in Swainsboro. It’s open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
- National Guard BID-EOC, located at 1841 GA Highway 24 W in Louisville. It’s open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
- Lincoln County Recreation Department, Walker T. Norman Gym located at 1962 Rowland-York Drive in Lincolnton. It’s open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 pm.
- At the McCormick County Library on 201 Railroad Avenue. The center will be open until Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Thomson Depot 111 Railroad Street. It’s open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 pm.
- HUB for Community Innovation, 631 Chafee Avenue Augusta. It’s open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
- Screven County Library, located at 106 S Community Drive in Sylvania. It’s open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
- Washington Fire Department training room, 212 E. Court St. in Washington, Ga. It’s open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Sandersville School building, located at 514 N Harris Street. It’s open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.

- FEMA is providing equal access to federal assistance for South Carolinians who were affected by Hurricane Helene. If you have accessibility needs, let FEMA know about your individual needs when you apply for disaster assistance.
- If you or anyone in your household has a disability or language need and a need to interact with FEMA or disability-related losses due to the storm, it is important to answer “yes” to the appropriate questions when completing the application for FEMA disaster assistance. You will be asked to identify what you need to help you throughout your recovery process.
- You can apply in several ways: online at DisasterAssistance.gov, in person at any Disaster Recovery Center, on your phone using the FEMA mobile app or by calling the FEMA Helpline.
Ossoff pushes for agricultural disaster assistance to Ga. farmers
Sen. Jon Ossoff pressed both parties on the urgency of ing agricultural disaster assistance for Georgia before the end of the year.

Even if you already started repairing or replacing items damaged or destroyed during Hurricane Helene, FEMA may be able to reimburse you for these expenses. Be sure to save your receipts.
FEMA will only approve home repairs that are necessary to restore the home to a habitable condition. The types of repairs that may be eligible for assistance will vary depending upon the nature of the disaster.
