Homeless pedestrian dies after being hit by car on Meadowbrook Drive
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A homeless pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning in Augusta, according to the coroner.
The Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen says they responded to the 2500 block of Meadowbrook Drive about a pedestrian struck.

Deadly holidays: A dangerous time to drive
- According to a new report, more than 11,100 people died in car crashes during holiday weekends from 2018 to 2022, with Thanksgiving emerging as the second-deadliest holiday weekend for deaths, with 2456 fatalities.
- Thanksgiving is the most dangerous holiday for pedestrians. From 2016-2022, there were 1,841 pedestrians killed in traffic crashes, and they made up 16.6% of fatalities. On Thanksgiving, the proportion of pedestrian fatalities jumped to 21.0%.
- The study found 38% of holiday fatalities were due to alcohol-impaired driving. Speeding-related crashes ed for 31.1% of holiday fatalities, while distracted drivers ed for 7.4%.by motor vehicle.
Crash causes hours of chaos on westbound I-520 in Augusta
An early morning crash shut down all westbound lanes of Interstate 520, causing chaos 520 past Deans Bridge Road on Tuesday.

Bowen says Jerico Blair, 53, homeless, was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:50 a.m.
An autopsy has been scheduled, Bowen says.
Blair is the third homeless pedestrian killed in Augusta in recent weeks.
Just a few weeks ago, another homeless man died after being hit by a vehicle on 10th and Greene Streets downtown.
And back in October, a 59-year-old woman died after a pedestrian crash on Peach Orchard Road at Louisa Road.
