AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Wednesday was early National g Day for football, with the three-day period running through Friday.

This is the day when flips are made, and top recruiting classes are decided.

Much-needed depth is added all before the transfer portal opens on Monday.

CJ Crite

The University of Cincinnati is getting three-star Linebacker CJ Crite. The Bearcats actually recruited him for more of a safety position.

Crite had offers from App State, Arkansas State, Charlotte and Georgia Southern.

He is the first to sign with a Big 12 school under Head Coach Lee Chomkis. Crite had 97 tackles this year, with a total of 119.

“The position they had me play in, it’s like, it’s a position that really fit me. And I really wanted to play. It’s like a safety position. I really wanted to play safety. But in Lincolnton, I had to play linebacker because we don’t get any other linebacker down here,” said Crite.

Crite s Evans’ Derrick Canteen on Cincinnati’s defense.

Anthony “Tre Tre” Jeffery

Over in Thomson, Jeffery will be playing in the Mac next year. The running back will play for Kent State.

The three-star had offers from Arkansas and Central Michigan.

In class 2A of the GHSA, Jeffery ranked second in rushing yards. He finished his season seven yards shy of the 1,700 mark.

Jeffery leaves Thomson with a state championship under his belt, and a lesson that will stick with him always.

“If you don’t have that talent, it means nothing. So with that, I take that as no matter where I go, no matter what environment I’m in, I’m always going to have that motivation to always go hard. No matter who’s leaguing, who’s watching, I don’t care. No matter what, I’m going to go hard,” said Jeffery.

His reason for choosing the Golden Flashes is interesting. He liked that they’re not necessarily established. He wants a program that can grow with him.

Jaquel Holman

At Blackville-Hilda, the long-awaited wait for Holman to sign the dotted line is over.

As we’ve previously reported, he’s staying in his home state of South Carolina to play for the Gamecocks.

Holman is ranked as the 10th-best running back in the Palmetto State. The 2-way player brings a versatile skill set to Shane Beamer’s squad. He ran on the ground for 1,500 yards this year and picked up 38 total tackles as a linebacker.

Augusta United Cheer headed to nationals

After both the 12-U Diamonds team and 8-U Littles team placed at the Southeast Regional, they received an automatic bid to nationals.

Mason Short

Almost a year ago, the Knights Offensive Lineman Mason Short flipped from Alabama to Georgia.

He chose the Dawgs over a dozen other FBS schools. Short’s g also helped Kirby Smart sign another top recruiting class.

While he’s moving on to a new coach, it’s the lessons he’s learned from Coach Barrett Davis, he’ll take with him.

“ where he came from. He’d always talk about, you know, about stories about his buddies, you know, and the way his experiences were in our shoes and to know that, to see what that person experienced and to know I can go in life with that, it’s amazing,” said Short.

Tyler Wallace

Kicker Tyler Wallace is also headed off to play Division One football.

Wallace will play for North Alabama.

This season, Wallace was named the kicker of the year for Region 1 - 5A. His longest field goal came from 47 yards out. 86 PATs for Evans, 91 touchbacks.

He doesn’t leave until May, but it’s already sinking in.

“It’s definitely stress-free, now I’m stress-free. I don’t get to worry about college, so that was probably the biggest thing, but I’m glad I get to know what my home is and glad I get to know where I go instead of worrying about every day,” said Wallace.

BuddyRow Garrer

Garrer will play at Kent State.

He plays both sides of the ball.

This was another homecoming-type moment for the Evans senior.

He grew up in the Evans school system and transferred back from Aquinas to Evans for his senior year.

He s “Tre Tre” Jeffery from Thomson to play for the Golden Flashes.

“Knowing that I’m not there by myself and it’s a far way. This is a 10-hour flight, knowing that I’m not there by myself, it just feels great that I have a brother to come with me when my parents can’t or any of my family can’t, so it feels really good,” said Garrer.
