‘Improvement in every category’: Richmond County schools see growth in readiness

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Richmond County School System has grown in every category of the College and Career Ready Performance Index, Georgia’s ability system for K-12 schools that measures academic achievement and readiness for college or career.

“Our progress in the CCRPI reflects the dedication of our educators, students, and families,” said Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw, Superintendent of Schools. “This year’s improvement in every category—across elementary, middle, and high schools—is particularly significant and demonstrates the strength of our collective efforts.”

Apply now for magnet schools, special programs in Richmond County

Families in the Central Savannah River Area can now apply for Richmond County School System magnet schools and specialized programs for the 2025-2026 school year.

Local school receives its 4th National Magnet School of Distinction award

This year’s results show RCSS improving in all measured components of the CCRPI: Content Mastery (Georgia Milestones test scores), Progress (academic growth percentiles), Closing Gaps (performance in particular categories of the Georgia Milestones), Readiness (at or on grade level reading, attendance, and college and career readiness), and Graduation Rate. The most notable growth occurred in the Closing Gaps category, with average increases of 21% for elementary and middle schools and 40% for high schools.

Other highlights from the 2024 CCRPI report include:

Content Mastery: Schools saw gains across all grade levels for the third consecutive year.
Progress: Schools saw growth in all academic subjects.
Closing Gaps: Seventeen schools met or sured the state average in Closing Gaps.
Readiness: There was overall growth across all elementary, middle, and high schools in reading, attendance, and pathway completion.
Graduation Rate: The school system achieved its highest-ever 4-year graduation rate at 81.7%.
