New details released in shooting that injured 1 in Aiken
AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - We are learning new details about a shooting that left one person injured on York Street in Aiken on Thursday night.
Aiken police say the shooting happened in the Crosland Park neighborhood at 10:12 p.m.
In an incident report, police say the shooting happened on Hahn Street and Schroder Avenue.
Police said in an incident report that they responded to Crosland Park to investigate a report of gunshots. A witness told police a woman had been shot and was in front of River of Life Baptist Church, located at 1411 Columbia Highway (also known as York Street).
Upon arrival, police found a female victim in her vehicle in the median of York Street.
The victim stated she was coming off a street that connects to Crosland Park and was hit by a bullet, according to the report.
The victim was taken to Aiken Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Police say they were unable to find the shooter, but they did locate casings at Schroder Avenue and Crosland Drive.
Across the region, three people are dead and one is injured after an incident in Wilkes County. Authorities are looking for a 56-year-old man in connection to the deaths.
The shooting is the latest one in the past few days across the CSRA:
- On Tuesday in Augusta, 73-year-old James West was gunned down and left dead in the 1500 block of Picquet Avenue. Harold Leverett Jr., 27, was arrested, authorities said Thursday.
- On Sunday, 43-year-old Greg Baughman was shot to death in the 1000 block of Prides Crossing in Aiken County. His separated wife was arrested.
- Last Friday night, 20-year-old Ruben Johnson died after a shooting in the 1000 block on Amli Way in Augusta. Earnest Parkman, 68, was arrested.
- And last Wednesday, a shooting left William Horne, 49, and Carol Horne, 52, dead in the 3000 block of Mystic Lane in Augusta. William Horne’s brother, Tony Brooks Horne, 46, was arrested on the scene.
- Another shooting the week before left multiple people dead in Augusta. It happened Nov. 21 in the 2100 blocks of B and C streets, claiming the lives of Jeremy Dontavious McGahee, 34, and Zyquan Jamarcus Franklin, 32, both of Augusta.
It comes amid a two-year outbreak of violent crime that’s claimed more than 180 lives across the CSRA.
Cities large and small have been affected on both sides of the Savannah River.
