NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - One of the most promising seasons in recent history for the North Augusta Yellowjackets comes to a dramatic finish.

After squandering a 20-0 lead in the first quarter, North Augusta is walking away yet again without reaching the state title.

Thanks to a pair of defensive touchdowns to open the game, the Yellowjackets looked like they were going to run away with this one early.

The offense has been prolific the entire season, but they were shut down.

North Augusta’s defense finds the endzone more than the offense, and the Yellowjackets watched their early lead disappear.

“We just didn’t make plays. Well, the defense played their butts off all night long. We had some chances and we just didn’t execute and that’s just the way the game of football goes sometimes. It just doesn’t bounce your way. I’m super proud of the guy’s effort. They played their tails off all night and they fought. We had chances they just didn’t go our way,” said North Augusta Head Coach Richard Bush.

Everything would come down to one play for North Augusta.

Down 27-20 needing a touchdown to force overtime, Corey Tillman’s falls incomplete.

Bush comforting his players after the disappointing finish.

“Take a second to regroup and then we’ll get back to work. Got a lot of guys coming back. This one is gonna sting but you gotta be ready to go to work. You gotta be ready to get better,” said Bush.
