MILLEN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Since school started back this fall, there has been a rise in school threats and violence - across the CSRA. We just learned of the most recent incident at Jenkins County Elementary School.

The performance gym at Jenkins County Elementary School was struck by gunfire, we learned on Friday from authorities.

Suspect sought after man shot twice in Augusta robbery

A 22-year-old man is wanted in connection to an armed robbery that left one man with two gunshot wounds, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

School officials stated a firearm was discharged on a nearby street behind the performance gym, and a stray bullet struck the front of the performance gym on Thursday evening.

Fortunately, school officials say no students or adults were injured.

Officials also reported that this was an isolated incident and not a targeted attack on the school.

Students and staff will proceed with a normal school day on Friday, with an increased presence of law enforcement for added precaution.

Earlier in the day over in Evans, three students were criminally charged after fabricating a threat against Evans Middle School and reporting it to law enforcement, according to school officials.

A letter went home to families stating that local law enforcement and Columbia County School District Police responded to campus for the threat.

At Evans High School, parents were notified that there was a threatening comment made against the school that was circulating on social media also in November.

The week before, a Columbia Middle School student will be criminally charged after making a threat.

Back in October, letters went home to parents of students at Burke County Middle School, Grovetown High School and Evans Middle School after reports of threats and more.
