Local organizations make final push for Christmas donations
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - While many of us are getting ready to wrap our gifts to put under the tree, local organizations are making a final push for donations to help kids in need.
Each toy box at the Kroc Center is for a family and filled with gifts ranging from clothes to laptops, but even though Christmas is just over a week away they say there’s still time to help.
Thousands of toys filling boxes, and even filling rooms.
“This year it seems so much better, a lot of kids are getting so much more stuff,” said Angela Mixon, Core Mission associate.”I think that it’s very good that the community has went above whatever difficulties they’re going through to make another child happy.”
Local organizers say there’s an increase in need and help.
“I think more people jumped in,” said Jonathan Raymer, Salvation Army area commander. “We have 1,300 children, last year was 900, so we saw an increase of 400. I think that’s a 30% increase over last year.

Subfreezing temperatures have returned to the CSRA. Are you and your home prepared? Here's what you need to know.

And they are doing it despite what they might be going through at home.
“When you drive through, you still see so many houses that are still in disrepair and trying to get that, and still the hope that we all get to share, especially this Christmas season,” said Raymer.
Helping make sure around 500 families and more than 1,300 children have gifts under the tree this year.
“The generosity is astounding and it moves you when you see these things come in,” said Raymer.

We are now 11 days away from Christmas, and it’s the festive season at Hopelands Gardens. The festive light show is complete with live performances and refreshments.

Giving everyone the chance to celebrate the holidays.
“Our community, no matter what we go through, we all band together because if you see a child that needs something, maybe a bike, a toy, a bed, whatever it may be, you put whatever selfish things that you have going on in your life and you try to make it for that child,” said Mixon. “You try to make due for what that child needs.”
If you would still like to donate toys, Tuesday is the last day you can bring them to the Kroc Center before distribution on Thursday.
You can no longer adopt an angel, but you can bring any toys or clothes on Tuesday to the Kroc Center to help out or donate to their red kettle until Christmas Eve.
