New security feature helps fight theft of SNAP benefits
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Georgia Department of Human Services is adding protections for those who receive SNAP benefits from the state.
It has rolled out a new security feature to help combat ongoing issues with fraud.
A new feature allows EBT cardholders to easily lock and unlock their cards between purchases. Recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits can access the locking feature through the existing ConnectEBT website or by using a new ConnectEBT app.
Local organizations make final push for Christmas donations
While many of us are getting ready to wrap our gifts to put under the tree, local organizations are making a final push for donations to help kids in need.
Georgia is one of 14 states to offer the new app and one of several to include the card-locking feature, DHS said.
The lock feature lets customers choose where their cards are locked – either everywhere or only outside Georgia. Customers can also use the ConnectEBT app to automatically lock their cards after a specific amount of time.

Ga. bill pushes anonymous drop boxes for unwanted babies
Many states across the U.S. have "baby boxes," but South Carolina and Georgia do not, and some people want that to change.

Peek said it was a hassle to get her claim approved so that a replacement card could be sent out.
“I didn’t get my food stamps for October and November until two days before Thanksgiving it took them that long,” she said.
Peek said she’s glad the state is working to address the problem but feels there needs to be a better system in place for those who fall victim to fraud.
