AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - On Friday, the Augusta Fire Department delivered toys to families as part of their initiative to make sure every child has a gift under the tree this holiday.

After Helene, we’re told it was especially important for volunteers and donors to step up.

The fire department took community donations and used them to spread Christmas cheer.

Precious Pearls mentoring

“From the moment Hurricane Helene struck, our community all ed hands to say, ‘What can we do?’ In the instances that families are not able to provide some toys or gifts, someone sees that there may be a need somewhere and wants to give those donations to us. It means a lot for us to be a part of it, for us to be on the receiving end to say, ‘Yes, we will take those donations and ensure that they get into the hands of those that are in need,’” said Augusta Fire Department Public Information Officer Chiquita Richardson.

The fire department says enough gifts were donated and handed out to benefit up to 60 families.
