AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - , uplift, encourage and educate girls — that’s the mission of one organization who’s making a difference in future generations.

Precious Pearls Mentoring has been around since 2019 and is finding solutions in mentorship and guidance.

“When I did , everybody made me feel loved and it was special to me and I continued to come,” said Nevaeh Green.

Green is in the 10th grade and has been a part of Precious Pearls Mentoring for three years.

It’s a non-profit organization centered around inspiring girls to embrace their own potential.

“My favorite part is really the girls and our mentors. Everybody makes each other feel special and we laugh and joke and it’s just a fun time,” said Green.

Wallisa Lankford says she started Precious Pearls because there was a need.

Over the years, they’ve grown from having anywhere from two mentees to now having 31, which is the largest they’ve ever had.

“We show them how to set goals and reach those goals and they’re attainable to reach them. We have workshops with our girls once a month. We do fun fellowships quarterly when they all get together and we go out and do something fun, so they have that connection with the younger girls with the older girls,” said Lankford.

Lankford says they do just about anything that brings guidance and positivity to the girls.

Right now, they’re preparing blessing bags to give out to those in need ahead of Christmas.

“It also gives them the opportunity to show how one small act whether it’s a smile, whether it’s a blessing bag full of essential items, how impactful that is for someone, and it also gives them a sense of self and pride to know I actually helped somebody,” said Lankford.

Makayla Mitchell says she’s learned a lot about herself after ing the group.

“I think I’ve improved on my patience and being kinder with people because I used to not have a lot of patience with people, so I think I’m working on that and it’s better,” said Mitchell.

She says there are a lot of opportunities that come from being a Precious Pearl.

“They could come in and not really know of this stuff and when they leave, they can have a better understanding of people who are less fortunate and how to work on yourself and work with others,” said Mitchell.

If you or someone you know is in need, Precious Pearls will be ing out the blessing bags full of essential items, along with food boxes, coats and toys on Saturday at the James Brown Arena starting at 10 a.m.

They ask that kids be presented to receive coats and toys.

Lankford says as they head into the new year, they hope to be in their own building one day as they keep expanding in the number of girls they are mentoring.
