EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Dozens of kids got to have a holiday experience with officers on Friday in Columbia County.

Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies took 50 kids on $325 shopping sprees at the Evans Walmart.

During “Day with a Deputy,” the kids were also treated to breakfast with their families and pictures with Santa Claus.

Augusta Fire Department donates gifts to local families

On Friday, the Augusta Fire Department delivered toys to families as part of their initiative to make sure every child has a gift under the tree this holiday.

“Start with clothes, things of that nature, hygiene items, or something that they might need at the house. So, we start with things they want like toys,” said Sergeant Daniel Massey with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. “We love to see the smiles from the kids faces. As I mentioned before, some of these kids, this may be the only they have.”

Massey says this year, they saw more volunteers than ever.
