Police arrest 22-year-old suspect in Aiken murder case

The Aiken Department of Public Safety investigators have arrested a 22-year-old who turned himself in.

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Hours after his name and photo were released, a suspect surrendered to authorities in connection with the shooting death of William Lee Mathis Jr. several weeks ago.

Sabastyen Miles Greene, 22, was wanted on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, authorities said Friday.

Police made that announcement Friday morning, and he turned himself in at 2 p.m., authorities said.

He was booked into the Aiken County Detention Center.

Fort Eisenhower murder suspect waives preliminary hearing

A defendant has waived his preliminary hearing in last weekend’s shooting death of a reservist in a family housing area at Fort Eisenhower.

On Sept. 18, Aiken Department of Public Safety officers responded to Columbia Avenue and Chesterfield Street for a health and safety check after receiving a call at 10:41 p.m.

Officers arrived and found Mathis, 42, of Aiken, who had been shot. He was taken to a hospital and later declared dead.
