Pedestrian identified in Edgefield County fatal crash

TRENTON, S.C (WRDW/WAGT) - One person is dead after a pedestrian crash in Edgefield County on Friday night.

Michael Simpkins, 69, of North Augusta died at 8:32 p.m. at Wellstar MCG from blunt force trauma, according to Edgefield County Coroner David Burnett.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 7 p.m. on Mount Zion Road, just south of Trenton.

Troopers say a 1998 Toyota 4Runner was going east on Mount Zion Road while a pedestrian was walking along the road.

De’Narian Cobb, 25, of Waynesboro, is charged in connection with the Nov. 21 shooting death of Chavious Kimmerlin, 50, at Kimmerlin’s home in the 500 block of Highland Avenue.

The 4Runner hit the pedestrian near the intersection of Mount Zion Road and Highway 25, troopers say.

Highway patrol says the pedestrian was taken to MCG in Augusta and later died from their injuries.

The driver was not injured in the accident.
