Tim Scott makes history as longest-serving Black U.S. senator
GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - With the new state Senate sworn in, one of South Carolina’s own is making history.
Sen. Tim Scott is now the longest-serving African American U.S. senator. He will also be the first African American chairman of a Senate standing committee.

Competing bills related to abortion are being pre-filed for the session and a few are already drawing attention for their variety of intentions.

The Republican will lead the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee.
Scott first took office in 2013 after then-Gov. Nikki Haley appointed him to succeed Sen. Jim Demint. He later won a special election to fill out the remainder of Demint’s term before winning his first full term in 2016.
S.C. lawmakers could look at tightening rules on gun storage
A potential new bill regarding gun storage is up for discussion and being referred to the State House judiciary committee for the next steps.

Scott has said in the past that he does not plan to run for re-election in 2028.
