Wagener council votes to split town from fire department

WAGENER, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - On Monday, the Wagener Town Council voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance that would separate the town from the fire department.

The decision comes after the former fire chief resigned from his position, along with 19 other firefighters in November.

The Aiken County Council previously voted to terminate that contract.

A spokesperson for the city council told us the session began at 6 p.m. and adjourned around 7:20 p.m.

Now, the ordinance needs to be approved by the Aiken County Council.

The next meeting is Jan. 21.
